MODEL 2: The Cubbon Park State Central Library: A Starlit Future: Reimagining the Karnataka State Public Library

This design breathes new life into the Karnataka State Public Library, transforming it into a vibrant hub for learning and exploration. Inspired by the rich history of Karnataka, particularly the star-shaped temples of the Hoysala Empire, the library seamlessly blends the past with the future. It hosts community events like book clubs, film screenings, and discussions to foster a vibrant hub for learning and social interaction.

Key Features of the Design

Efficient Space Planning: 3300 sqft is maximized through a clever zoning system based on the star-shaped temple layout. Each ‘ray’ of the star becomes a dedicated area catering to different user needs.

Future Library Experience: The design introduces technology-based bookshelves, which is sleek, rotating bookshelves inspired by a Ferris wheel. This innovative design, with 10 shelves per unit, allows for space optimization and easy access to a vast collection.

Material Fusion: Embrace the past and future through a unique material selection. The mood board (to be provided) will showcase how traditional materials from Karnataka are juxtaposed with modern elements, creating a visually stunning and functional space.

Entrance & Welcome Area: A central point resembling the temple's core is welcoming the visitors with comfortable seating, interactive displays, and a self-service kiosk for checkouts.

Silent Reading Area: This is the heaven for book worms as its offers focused reading. Soft lighting, comfortable chairs, and soundproofing materials ensure a peaceful environment.

Collaborative Learning Area: This area is designated for group study and collaboration. Flexible furniture allows for easy configuration, while large screens and whiteboards encourage interactive learning.

Children's Area: A dedicated zone sparks young imaginations. Playful furniture, interactive displays, and a curated collection of children's books create a space for exploration and discovery.

Digital Hub: Advanced computers, high-speed internet access, and digital learning resources empower research and knowledge exchange. Integrate virtual reality experiences to bring history and literature to life. Offer online access to the library's digital collection, extending its reach beyond physical boundaries.

Exhibition Space: Showcase Karnataka's rich heritage through rotating exhibits. This ‘ray’ can also be used for author talks, workshops, and community events.

Relaxation Area: It offers a tranquil space to unwind. Lush greenery and comfortable seating offer a refuge for reflection and rejuvenation.
