The suburban rail project Panvel-Karjat to be ready by December 2025

Undertaken by MRVC (Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation), the double line project for the latest suburban rail corridor in region of Mumbai between the two cities Panvel & Karjat is predicted its completion by the month of December in 2025. The double line project has attained the completion status of 46 percent.

The sanctioned amount for the project is 812 crore. It involves three subways and two railing flyovers and also major and minor bridges, road under bridges and road over bridges are integrated in the planned configuration.

The three tunnels namely Nadhal tunnel (219 mtrs.), Wavrely tunnel (2.6 km) and Kirawali tunnel (300 mtrs.) are all under the construction process.

For this project, more than 57 ha private land has been got hold of and additionally 4.4 ha government land also acquired. Also the double line project covers up the forest land for which permission was already obtained in August 2022, and the work has begin previously.

In the meantime, MRVC (Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation) has also commenced the work of  building stations at Panvel, Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk and Karjat railway stations, separate from the railway flyovers (Panvel, Karjat) and the three tunnels.

The new rail corridor will connect Navi Mumbai with the district Raigad of the MMR (Mumbai Metropolitan Region) and it would support the expansion of Panvel, Karjat and the planned NAINA (Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area). Furthermore, it will allow the local trains to run between Mumbai and the city Karjat passing through Panvel.
