The Expansion Work of Hyderabad International Airport is at its Finish Line

The International Airport Expansion Project based in Hyderabad is almost done and it’s nearing its inauguration. The Project has been undertaken and constructed by GMR Group partnered with Airport Authority of India. The Hyderabad International Airport has recently operated and added by additional covering area of 6.07 lakh sq ft. The newly added area is perfectly integrated with the existing space as the part of Expansion activities.

After the expansion & operational works, now the Airport acquires a total area of 29.5 lakh sq ft and previously it was 23.42 lakh sq ft, which indicates the two-third of project completion. GHIAL announced that the pending work of the Airport expansion is projected to complete by the end of the year. 

The initiative of constructing International Airport in Hyderabad had originated in 2008 with the motto of accommodating 12 million passengers per year and operated successfully.

 

Then the Expansion journey of Airport embarked in the mid of the year 2021. The mission of the expansion work is to increase the capability of the Airport to hand over 34 million passengers every year with sufficient investment of $840 million.

Though the wave of Pandemic disrupted the expansion work, the aviation department maintained the total passenger traffic of 21 million during the period. The sources from GHIAL provided the features of the restructured Airport including improved arrival facilities, 24 remote bus domestic departure gates, 12 passenger boarding aero bridges, contact stands and D-D ( domestic-to-domestic). Furthermore, the Airport is equipped with three automatic tray retrieval system machines, 12 departure gates, 22 escalators & elevators, 2 travellators, 19 staircases. Apart from these amenities, they constructed 9 additional restrooms for both men and women. Overall the operational expansion expected to enhance the capacities and viabilities of the Airport.
