The EC from MOEFCC clears the way for Adani Group for Underground Coal Mine

A leading integrated business conglomerate enriching lives & creating sustainable value, The Adani Group has honored by securing EC (Environmental Clearance) from the MOEFCC (Ministry of Forest Environment and Climate Change) for its underground coal mine at Gondkhairi in Kalmeshwar taluka, which is situated in 20 km from Nagpur. To note, this is Adani Group’s first mine in Maharashtra.

The Environmental Clearance covers the way for the Adani Group to apply for approval to operate under the management of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). Apart from commercial sale of the remaining quantity, the coal mined is expected to feed its power plant at Tiroda in Gondia district. Aiding in creation of 2,000 work opportunities, the project will involve a total outlay of over Rs. 1,300 crore.

The mine is named as Adani Power Maharashtra, head group for cluster of entities. In the EC, precise conditions mentioned includes that the group will have to build an in-house laboratory at the site area to examine & monitor the ecological parameters such as air & water quality and also to set up solar lights next to the road, which is projected to be used for commutation of the mined coal. In addition, the group will have to set up a village-wise water distribution system & also discover the possibility of taking out methane from gases out of the mine.

Spanning over an area of 862 hectares, the company is planning to construct the mine with capability of generating two million tpa (MTPA). The whole geological reserves are anticipated to be at 98.717 MT out of which approximately 43 MT are available for extraction. Also the Adani Group has mines in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand as well.
