Suzuki Invests Rs. 35,000 Cr to Set-up Manufacturing Unit

The Indian subsidiary of Japanese Automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti Suzuki India will invest Rs. 35,000 crore to set up its second manufacturing unit in Gujarat.

The manufacturing plant will have an installed production capacity of 10 lakh units for each annum. This move is part of the company’s expansion strategy to double the output to four million units by FY31.

By means of this, the annual production capacity in Gujarat will be two million units, with one million units at Suzuki Motor Gujarat and one million units at the second new plant. The new plant's first phase with a manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh units per annum is expected to make operate by next year.

In the meantime, the company Suzuki Motor Corp will adjoin a fourth production line to its wholly-owned subsidiary Suzuki Motor in Gujarat. It plans to launch six EVs in India by the year 2030. Also Suzuki Motor Gujarat has set up a facility in Gujarat with an installed production capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum. In addition, setting up of a new manufacturing unit at Sonipat in Haryana is already under the process with an investment of Rs. 11,000 crore in the first phase. 

In Maruti Suzuki India, Suzuki Motor owns around 58 percent stake which is looking to attach another 20 lakh unit’s production capacity by the forecasting year 2030-31 with about 28 different models in the marketplace. At present, the automaker has an increasing production capacity of around 22 lakh units per annum across its two manufacturing plants in Haryana and Gujarat.
