Retired IAS-officer Satya Gopal steps down as RERA Chairman

A year after, the government of Punjab allotted retired IAS officer Satya Gopal from Delhi as the chairman of RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority) of the state. Now he resigned from the post. Also his resignation was time-honored by the Punjab’s Governor Banwarilal Purohit

The former additional chief secretary of Delhi and known to be close to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Satya Gopal faced condemnation for his appointment by the ruling party Aam Aadmi.

Subsequently, within the state government's move of appointmenting Satya Gopal as RERA chairman, the Opposition party Aam Aadmi Party criticized the government in the state.

In reaction to the criticism, the Government of Punjab newly appointed two Punjabis to other coveted positions. Senior Advocate & AAG (Additional Advocate General) Inderpal Singh Dhanna, considered as very close to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, was appointed as chief information commissioner and the former IPS officer, Jatinder Aulakh was fixed as PPSC chairman.

Though, this is not a fresh phenomenon for the state Punjab, as during former CM Amarinder Singh’s administration, the government already faced criticism for assigning retired officers to positions that could be given to the leaders in politics.
