PM Modi launches Mega Infra Projects in Kochi

Our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched multiple projects worth Rs. 4,000 crore in Kochi, Kerala which includes key strategic initiatives at Cochin Shipyard. The key projects committed to the country are the New Dry Dock (NDD) and the International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) of Cochin Shipyard (CSL) & LPG Import Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL).

The ISRF (India Science and Research Fellowship) which will modernize and develop the existing ship repair capabilities of Cochin Shipyard within the investment about Rs. 970 crore. It is outfitted with a ship lift system with a capacity of 6000T, a transfer system, six workstations and a berth of 1,400 meters approximately, which can accommodate seven vessels of 130-meters length concurrently.

PM said that the new LPG Import Terminal will assemble at the LPG needs of Kochi, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Calicut, Madurai and Trichy and facilitate development activities and generate new job opportunities in these areas.

These infra projects will not only lift up the India's shipbuilding and repair capacities but also revitalize infrastructure growth, reduce logistics costs and untie numerous domestic and international business openings.

The event was presented by Governor of Kerala - Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister -Pinarayi Vijayan, Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways - Sarbananda Sonowal, among others

In this ocassion, PM Modi highlighted the significance of states in India's journey towards becoming a 'Viksit Bharat' during the Amrit Kaal. He replicated on the historical significance of ports in India's prosperity & envisioned their crucial role in the current generation as India emerging as a key competitor in global deal.
