Ooty Railway Station will undergo Redevelopment Work under Central Government Scheme

The Salem division of Southern Railways issued a press release on Wednesday stated that, the railway stations of Ooty and Coonoor will undergo redevelopment work which will cost of Rs. 7 crore and Rs. 6.7 crore respectively. The press release clarified these developmental works will be carried forward under the Central government scheme of Amrit Bharat Station. The key focus of the project is to improve the heritage value of the station and enhance the delightful travel experience of passengers and tourists.

Ooty, popularly known as ‘Queen of Hill Stations’ and one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in Tamil Nadu, has been attracting a significant number of visitors throughout the year. This improvisation effort taken by central government will promote the transportation facilities and ease the access to the natural scenery of Ooty for nature lovers.  

Also the development works of this project is expected to create numerous employment opportunities for local communities and gradually elevate the graph of economic growth. Through the scheme, the railway department planned to upgrade and modernize the ambience of the station by introducing innovative amenities to attract the visitors. The project includes building additional platforms, renovating the existing structure of the station, installing latest advanced & automated security systems to ensure safety & surveillance of passengers. 

The features of the scheme are expected to add substantial value to tourism in Ooty and increase overall revenue to the industry. The developmental works of renovating Ooty Railway station lined up with the motto of central government on building sustainable and environment-friendly tourism of India.

Throwing light on the re-developmental initiative of Ooty railway station, the divisional railway manager Pankaj Sinha stated “The upgradation and modernization works of the project only beautifies the amenities of the station and does not affect the structures”. He also added, “Approval from local bodies has already taken by railway department to construct a car parking facility in the station”

The central government stepped into the action plan to transform the Ooty Railway station into user-friendly and top-notch transportation infrastructure, which will be a major way forward to enhance the tourist destination points of India. This initiative of creating Ooty as a travel-friendly destination will surely contribute to promote the sustainable tourism of India without disturbing the natural structure of the tourist spots.
