Narendra Modi Inaugurates Longest Sea bridge 'Atal Setu' in Navi Mumbai

India’s longest ever Sea bridge Atal Setu Sea-link was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in Navi Mumbai. The Atal Setu Bridge will provide faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport and will also reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa and South India. This inauguration marked the beginning of another transformative phase for Mumbai's real estate sector.

As India's longest sea bridge, spanning 22km with a 16.5km extension into the sea, the MTHL's influence on the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will be profound. This is a six-lane bridge having about 16.5 km length over sea and about 5.5 km on the land. The bridge is built at a cost of about ₹17,840 crore. The toll for the Sewri-Shivaji Nagar (Ulwe) stretch has been fixed at ₹200 and ₹50 for the 2.5 km Shivai Nagar-Gavhan stretch. The toll for a return trip will be 1.5 times the one-way charge.

This bridge is also known as Mumbai Trans harbor Link which will be open for the commuters from 13th January, Saturday. Meanwhile Mumbai traffic police has shared a list of vehicles not allowed on the bridge in its twitter account. Mumbai Police has announced that the maximum speed limit for four-wheelers on the MTHL will be 100 kilometers per hour.

PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the bridge in December 2016. PM Modi walked on India's longest sea bridge from INS Shikra in Colaba to Navi Mumbai near an upcoming airport site. During the visit, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for an underground road tunnel connecting Eastern Freeway's Orange Gate and launch the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan in the state.

According to an official press release, "The Prime Minister's vision is to improve the 'ease of mobility' for citizens by strengthening urban transport infrastructure and connectivity. The Mumbai Trans harbour link (MTHL), now named 'Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri - Nhava Sheva Atal Setu,' has been built in line with this vision.”

It further added that, The Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than Rs. 12,700 crore in the public program in Navi Mumbai."
