Mumbai coastal road project ready to be operational in first half of 2024

According to senior officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the Mumbai-based corridor project MCRP (Mumbai Coastal Road Project) is likely to be operational during the first half of 2024. In the beginning, the project was expected its finishing point by the month of November in 2021. Due to the completion hold-up of the project, the city which is already grappling with jamming problems will be further blown by the force of traffic conditions. Nevertheless, once the project gets completed, it is anticipated to fasten the connectivity drastically between South Mumbai and the Western suburbs and alleviate the traffic flow.

The Koli community members have been advocating for several years for an amplified gap linking the pillars of a proposed bridge that will tie the coastal road with the Bandra-Worli sea link.

The demand to amplify the gap rises from the need for fisher folks to take the helm of their boats with ease.

“And the time limit to complete the project had been extended for seven months due to the changes of design in several portions of the high-speed corridor project,” said Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal. Further Chahal added, “A decision on increasing the gap to 120 m was taken in earlier this year by the honorable chief minister and the deputy chief minister. Owning to this, we have been in the point to modify the complete design of the proposed bridge, and for this reason the time limit to complete the project is going to be extended by seven months”.

The BMC, (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) is constructing the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), 10.5 km corridor to perk up the connectivity of the city. The route will start on near the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive and tie to the Bandra-Worli sea link via a series of tunnels, bridges and arterial roads. The corridor project will feature three traffic inter-changes placed at Amarson’s Street, Haji Ali and Worli. From the Worli Interchange, the MCRP will tie to the Bandra-Worli sea link in the course of a proposed bridge.
