MMRDA Allies with UK to Establish Smart City

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will hold hands with UK-based smart cities forum to power the city as tech-oriented and inclusive smart city. This partnership is expected to spearhead the creation of technology driven environment into the city.

The inventive initiative fosters to transform the MTHL (Mumbai Trans Harbor Link) from influencial area into a model smart growth centre that covers 334 sq km.  

The collaboration formulated through the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed between MMRDA and the World Smart Cities Forum at the event of World Economic Forum 2024 happened in Davos, Switzerland. This powerful collaboration aligns with Indian government’s Smart City Mission which focuses on harnessing technology & suitable practices for urban development.

Aiming to set up a new standard for urban living, the objective of this project is to build a progressive city grounded in sustainable practices.

Commenting on this project, a spokesperson for MMRDA expresses the organization’s intent by stating, "MMRDA envisions transforming Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) Influence Area into a model smart growth center."

Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister, Maharashtra states, "The global best practices advocated by WSCF will now play a pivotal role in the development of the smart growth center in the MMR, bringing us closer to the realization of our visionary goals."
