Kolkata is Reshaping Its Infrastructural Heritage by demolishing the Illegal Constructions

In order to tackle the illegal real estate work of constructions the civic body KMC has taken this decision and announced the commencement of a demolition drive, starting from October 30. The instances of illegal structure became very common in Kolkata, with numerous buildings built without obtaining proper licenses and approvals from the appropriate authorities. These unauthorized constructions often lack the necessary safety measures, creating a risk for both the residents and the surrounding communities.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), along with other relevant departments, embarked on their new mission of restructuring the Kolkata’s real estate and infrastructure by demolishing the illegal structures. This action plan starts with identifying such buildings which were constructed without the adherence to the building regulations. After the identification the concerned authority will send notices to the owners or occupants, providing them with an opportunity to rectify the situation within a specified time frame.

Those parties will be unsuccessful to comply with the necessary rules and regulation after receiving the notices, they will have to face the demolition of their buildings by the authorities. The KMC has already warned that strict action would be taken against individuals who are not abiding by the demolition process or trying to prevent officials from carrying out their duties.

The truly commendable drive aims to ensure the safety and security of the residents by eliminating hazardous structures. The KMC will coordinate with various stakeholders, including police, fire department, and other concerned agencies, to carry out the demolitions swiftly and efficiently. The city authorities have also requested the citizen of Kolkata to cooperate with the officials during the process for a smooth execution. This initiative is aiming to enhance public safety and promote adherence to building norms and regulations.

This noble initiative of KMC will be an eye-opener for the dishonest builders and simultaneously it will resolve the problem of unauthorized constructions and safeguard the city's architectural Heritage. By eliminating illegal structures, the city can allocate its resources to planned and legal construction projects, bolstering the overall infrastructure and contributing to a safer and more resilient cityscape. This action plan will definitely promote safety, order, and sustainable development, while urging citizens to comply with building regulations for a secure and thriving urban environment.
