JSW Steel Planning to set up New Eco-Friendly Steel Plant

India’s second largest Steel manufacturer, JSW Steel Ltd aforesaid that its subsidiary, JSW Utkal Steel Ltd has received possession of 2677.80 acres of forest land in Rajnagar, Odisha for setting up a Greenfield Integrated Steel Plant.

The land parcel, which is closer to the Paradip port in Odisha, was once allocated for the Korean giant Posco. The company had plans to set up 12-mtpa steel plant.

The company, JSW said in a regulatory filing, “JSW Utkal Steel Ltd (JUSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Steel Ltd getting environmental clearance (EC) for setting up of a eco-friendly unit greenfield Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) of 13.2 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) crude steel from the Union Ministry of Environment & Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) which was further re-validated by MoEF&CC in September 2023 with additional and modified EC conditions.”

Along With this, JSW Steel added, “The total land required for the project that is 2950.31 acres, of which 2677.80 acres was forest land. The non-forest land of 272.51 acres has already been leased in favor of JSW Utkal Steel Limited by Odisha government”.

This pursues the environmental clearance received in the year 2022 and re-validated in the year 2023. The non-forest land of 272.51 acres has also been chartered.
