Jodhpur HC instills Govt to harness technology for Aravalli's Urban development

The Jodhpur bench of Rajasthan High Court has instructed the government to provide an explanation on how the technology utilized by students from Mohanlal Sukhdiya University, Udaipur, such as Google Earth, can be effectively employed to label and delineate the hills in Udaipur's Aravalli hills, recognizing the commendable efforts made by these students in assessing the urban development in the lake district.

The research sheds light on the infringement of hill regulations concerning the Aravalli region in Udaipur. Justices Yogendra Kumar Purohit and PS Bhati of the division bench urged participants in these programs to persist in enhancing and offering further insights to the court.

The court issued these instructions during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti, Udaipur. The PIL brought to the court's notice the widespread construction activities taking place in the Aravallis, which are in clear violation of the established by-laws.

The court has also instructed Additional Advocate General Rajesh Panwar to provide assistance to the court and clarify the methods by which this technology will be employed to mark and delineate the hills in Udaipur.

The order of the court mentioned,"Such expert is directed to remain present in the court in person or by virtually to explain the steps taken by the government for capacity building to introduce technology to demarcate and contain such grave violation of laws to change the topography of the region."

Furthermore, it stated that the aforementioned specialist must present to the court their findings on the utilization of technology by the state authorities in relation to this matter.

In the meantime, the court has ordered a halt to all construction activities related to the building of resorts or motels that are in violation of the by-laws. Furthermore, any construction activities that do not comply with the hill by-laws will be put on hold or maintained as they are until the next hearing on May 27th.

The court previously instructed the government during a PIL hearing regarding encroachments on forestland in Jodhpur to embrace a scientific approach in addressing the issues of encroachments in areas where natural resources such as forests, reserve lands, hills, reservoirs, and protected areas are at odds with the growing population encroaching upon city limits.
