Indian real estate agents opting for self-employed lifestyle

The latest property market insight from eXp Realty India has shown that there has been a huge increase in the number of Indian real estate agents opting to pursue the self-employed model in order to gain a better work-life balance in a destination that was made for such a lifestyle.

Internal data from eXp India shows that so far this year alone, it has seen a 236% increase in the number of member agents utilising the platform to pursue a self-employed lifestyle.

The 236% increase seen since 2020 demonstrates the growing momentum of the employment model that has been building across India, with eXp India seeing member agent numbers increase by an average of 47% per year.

However, there remains a wealth of potential for the self-employed model across India, particularly given the nation’s ambition to achieve developed country status by 2047.

What’s more, according to the World Bank, India's GDP is projected to grow at a rate of 7% between 2024 and 2025, which would make it the fastest-growing major economy in the world.

As a result, the nation’s wider plans for growth will continue to benefit the economy and attract more attention to the Indian property market.

Head of eXp India, Shashank Vashishtha, commented:

“We’ve seen a huge increase in the number of agents opting to pursue the self-employed model within India in just a few short years and this increasing strength is mirroring what we’re seeing across the wider economy.

The nation’s ambitious growth plans present a wealth of potential within the property market and we’re seeing more and more agents recognize this.

However, whilst the higher earning potential that the self-employed model can facilitate is, of course, a significant draw, for the majority of agents, it’s the greater work-life balance that can be achieved which is the most attractive aspect of the self-employed proposition.

It does take hard work in order to be successful, but our agents benefit from the full support of the eXp brand right from the start, allowing them to build momentum within their respective markets far quicker than they may have done otherwise.”
