Govt Unveils Redevelopment Project of Sambalpur Station worth Rs. 2146 crore

The redevelopment of Sambalpur Railway Station into a world-class facility is underway, covering an extensive 70.92 acres of land with features such as a rooftop plaza, food court, kids play zone, and various other amenities. The estimated cost for this transformation is Rs 3.48 billion. The 36m wide and 78m long roof plaza will come up over the station for passengers. There will be 21 escalators and 14 lifts at seven platforms.

In a significant move, Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of railway projects worth about Rs. 2146 crores which include redevelopment for Sambalpur Railway Station and Flagging off Puri-Sonepur-Puri Weekly Express in Sambalpur, Odisha. This marks the beginning of the station's transformation into a city centre, aimed at benefiting the local tourism and textile-handloom industry in the state. 

The number of platforms will increase from four to seven, and the flow of daily passengers will also grow considerably. Currently, the station is handling about 11,580 passengers daily, and as per the projection, the number will go up to 27,353 per day in future.

The seven-storey station building will come up at the existing one, according to the plan. The Platforms will be having essential facilities like retails, ATM, one station one product, pharmacy, Internet, wash rooms, etc.

One of the senior railway officials associated with the project emphasized that the redevelopment plan considers the city's growth and train operations over the next 50 years. After the completion, it will significantly boost train handling capacity with improved passenger amenities, the railways maintains.

There will be an adequate parking facility to be constructed at 14,030 square metre area. Besides, solar panel and water recycling plant will also come up at the revamped station.
