Godrej & Boyce builds fully functional office in just 40 hours

The Godrej Group's flagship company, Godrej & Boyce, revealed that its subsidiary, Godrej Construction, had built a 500 square foot office in just forty hours on the company's own Greenfield campus in Khalapur. This building called as "The Cocoon" was built by utilising cutting-edge 3D Construction Printing (3DCP) technology in the form of prefabricated modules.

Anup Mathew, Sr. Vice President and Business Head, Godrej Construction says, “The Cocoon’ is a manifestation of our relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries, not just in terms of architectural design, but also in redefining construction timelines. Construction of ‘The Cocoon’ is a good demonstration of an effective team collaboration integrated with good project planning using tools like Building Information Modelling (BIM), Lean Construction methods, and 3D Construction Printing. At Godrej Construction, we are committed to delivering innovative and sustainably designed solutions tailored to the needs of our customers in the built environment.”

The modular office lives up to its name, thanks to its distinctive design which combines cutting-edge engineering methods with a modular construction process. The office's unusual curved elliptical design demonstrates the architectural flexibility of this well-thought-out workspace that explores the possibilities of 3DCP technology, installed with prefabricated toilet unit - the entire arrangement is column-free providing the greatest amount of usable office space.

Complete installation of 3D printed modules, civil works, waterproofing, flooring, painting both inside and outside, electrical work, lighting, installation of air conditioning, plumbing, drainage, and sanitary fittings, office furniture, and landscaping were all completed in less than 40 hours during the construction of the project.

The Godrej & Boyce Recycled Concrete manufacturing facility in Vikhroli, Mumbai, uses recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) from concrete rubble, up to 20% of which are included in the design of the concrete mix used to produce the office. The business continues to be at the forefront of cutting-edge green and creative construction techniques, reaching yet another milestone with an office space that has been precisely planned for optimal use.
