GNIDA to construct new exhibition centre & Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal in Sector Chi

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority or GNIDA has planned to construct an exhibition-cum-convention centre in Sector Chi of the planned city about 40 km from Delhi. This plan has been approved by the authority's board, and an area of around 25 acres has been set aside.

Presently, the Greater Noida has only India Expo Centre which is located on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. According to the officials, the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar  is scheduled to operate  from December, the demand for such a facility will only rise.

The decision was taken at the GNIDA board meeting headed by Chairman Manoj Kumar Singh and attended by CEO N G Ravi Kumar along with other officials on June 15. One of the senior officials of the authority said that, numerous national and international vents regularly take place regularly in Greater Noida, straining the capacity of the India Expo Mart in Knowledge Park.

According to the officials, after inauguration of Noida International Airport towards the end of this year, the movement of VIPs, domestic and foreign guests in Greater Noida will only increase. Owing to this the number of international and national level events is also likely to go up so the authority has given approval to construct an exhibition-convention centre in Sector Chi of Greater Noida. This proposal will be sent to the Uttar Pradesh government for approval and the work will begin soon after the state government’s nod.

The visitors and exhibitors will need hospitality services as well, so the convention centre, apart from a huge garden, will also have a hotel facility on the upper floors of the building. In the meeting, the authority has also approved to build a Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) in Dadri for logistics and handling of rail cargos. It will come up on 260 acres near the inland container depot (ICD) in Dadri in Gautam Budh Nagar district.

The officials also added that, it will be developed under the guidelines from the Union government wherein each state has to develop GCTs in order to boost investment and for better handling and channelling of cargos across the country.

One of the officials mentioned that, around 260 acres have been identified for the cargo terminal. The land parcel is located near Pali and Makora villages in the Dadri region. This facility will offer employment to more than 15000 people.  With the construction of the cargo terminal, this region will become the main logistics hub of the NCR (National Capital Region). This will facilitate the smooth movement of freight through the expressway and DFC (Dedicated Freight Corridor).
