GMDC invests Rs. 900 cr on first underground copper mine in North Gujarat

GMDC - Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation planning to invest Rs. 900 crore on developing its first underground copper mine in North Gujarat. The planned mine that spread over 184 hectares is positioned about three kilo meters from the town of Ambaji.

The company expects to inaugurate the mine in the next three years. A latest geo-magnetic survey conducted by GMDC unveils that the mineral absorption of copper reserves near Ambaji is more than 11.5 percent of the total amount of ore.

Also the company plans to conduct 15 studies that include a rock mechanic study and further exploration and studies about deeper drilling. The extracts will be for sale purposes to entities in the smelter production.

The metals found in the mining concentrate extracted from the mine will be divided in a concentrator plant that yet to set up near the mine. The mine has more than seven lakh tonne of reserves, which chiefly consist of copper, zinc and lead. 

Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation is one of the largest lignite producers in India. In addition to this project, the company plans to take on the widespread examination of 1,400 hectares in the adjoining area for the same base metals to set up one more reserve in the same area.
