DTCP issues Notices to 650 Property Owners for Illegal Construction

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has issued show-cause notices to 650 property owners in DLF-2 for illegal construction and unauthorized commercial use in residential areas. The action follows a large-scale survey conducted under the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s directive, which revealed widespread violations in Gurgaon's upscale residential sectors. 

DTCP officials surveyed 15,000 properties across DLF-1 to 5 and found that 4,200 violated norms, including unauthorized construction, deviations from approved building plans, and illegal commercial activities.

Officials also plan to inform the revenue department to stop registering property deeds for these 650 properties until the illegalities are addressed.

"In DLF-2, we identified 650 properties with violations. Owners have been asked to respond to the notices. If their replies are unsatisfactory, strict action will be taken, including directives to restore properties to their original state," said Amit Madholia, District Town Planner (enforcement). 

Earlier this month, DTCP had issued 1,138 notices in DLF-3, giving homeowners until January 31 to restore sanctioned designs and shut down unauthorized commercial operations. Failure to comply would result in demolition and sealing measures. 

The enforcement drive aims to curb the rampant misuse of residential properties for commercial purposes, which has been a persistent issue in Gurgaon. Officials noted that while certain "non-nuisance activities" may be allowed in residential areas, they require prior approval from DTCP and payment of applicable fees. 

The crackdown is part of a broader effort to enforce building regulations and prevent unauthorized commercialization, ensuring compliance with urban planning norms. DTCP officials warned that stricter measures would follow if violations continued, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to maintaining residential integrity in Gurgaon.
