Bengaluru's Property Registrations snags due to Transfer of 90 Sub-Registrars

On Thursday, a transfer of 90 sub-registrars caused confusion that disrupted real estate transactions and property registrations in Bengaluru.

Many purchasers and sellers had flocked to sub-registrar’s offices for real estate transactions as the new year got underway. However, the day's work in at least ten sub-registrar offices was impacted by the confusion between the incumbent officers and those posted in their positions.

Properties were not being registered because two sub-registrars were at odds over the post, according to sources in the Gandhinagar sub-registrar office. They lacked the necessary system login credentials to start property transactions.

On December 10, the state government issued an order for the 90 senior sub-registrars to be transferred to different parts of Bengaluru. A few current sub-registrars contested the same, saying the transfer orders affected their day-to-day lives because they were issued in the middle of the year and untimely.

“32 of the 90 sub-registrars had reported to work at other locations by then. But the sub-registrars went back to their previous places, leaving the transferred sub-registrars in limbo, pointing to the high court's interim order," a Revenue Officer said.

The transferred sub-registrars then requested assistance from the department. "The advocate general, who was consulted by the state government, allegedly gave the revenue department instructions to give login IDs to the recently transferred sub-registrars. However, none of them have received login IDs, which has an impact on the work done at the offices of sub-registrars," the official clarified.
