Bengaluru Positions 6th Most Congested city World-wide

As per the TomTom’s traffic index, a Dutch location technology specialist, Bengaluru, a most prominent Tech & startup capital city positioned as one of the most congested city of India in 2023.

In accordance with the report, Bengaluru is in the sixth position in the global level ranking of the most congested cities in the year 2023. Thereby, the city is slipping from its second position in 2022.

In the year 2022, the average time to cover 10 Km in Bengaluru was 29 minutes and in the last year 2023, the average time to cover 10 Km in Bengaluru was 28 minutes and 10 seconds which shows a slight improvement.

The average driving speed during rush hours in 2023 was 18 kilometer per hour. This results in Bengalureans to lose 132 hours in traffic jamming in a year.

Amongst the congested cities in the globe in 2023, London places at the top spot recording 37 minutes and 20 seconds to cover a distance of 10km with an average speed of 14 kmph for the period of rush hours followed by Dublin in Ireland (16 kmph), Toronto in Canada (18 kmph), Milan in Italy (17 kmph), and Lima in Peru (17 kmph).

Also, the report reveals that an additional 15 minutes were spent during the morning rush hour, and an extra 19 minutes during the evening rush hour for a 10 km trip.

Furthermore, the report indicates, for driving in Bengaluru, the ‘worst rush hour’ crops up on Fridays between 6 pm & 7 pm, with a regular travel time of nearly 36 minutes to cover a distance of 10 km. The maximum congestion period is mainly traced between 6 pm & 8 pm on all days, excluding Sundays.
