Almost 90 Commercial Retail Properties to bootstrap their journey in India by 2028

According to JLL India, almost 90 retail real estate properties, including around 450 square feet of space are projected to pop up by the year 2028.

As the developers project a surge in quality assets demand from retailers, this development is expected to come up among the seven key cities in India.

The leading real estate consultant - JLL India underscored that there will be 12 huge sized projects, covering an area of minimum 10 lakh square feet each.

Notably, Delhi-NCR region will register two retail centers of more than 25 lakh square feet each in upcoming five years.

 

The real estate consultant highlighted that the forthcoming retail developments would be huge in size when compared to those developments that became functional in previous decade.

Above the last ten years, the regular scope of new retail supply was around 3, 91,099 square feet with the accumulation of new retail throughout the period of April to June in 2024-2025.

Regarding this subject, JLL says, "The five years, Q2 2024 - end 2028, will see a surge in organised retail space completions. The top seven cities (Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, and Chennai) in India, will welcome around 45 million (450 lakh) sq ft, through 88 new retail developments, outpacing the supply of the past decade (2014-2023), which was around 38 million (380 lakh) sq ft”.

"Larger developments incorporating entertainment, leisure activities, and dining options, are creating comprehensive destinations that cater to the modern consumer", JLL added.
