Adani Group Intends to Invest Rs. 50,000 cr to Establish 1GW Data Centre

Adani Group announced that they will invest Rs.50,000 crore over the next 10 years to set up a 1 GW data centre in Maharashtra.  According to the report of reuters, the apples-to-airport conglomerate will invest Rs.624 billion in Maharashtra and Telangana as a part of its Rs.7-trillion expenditure plan for the next decade.

Adani Enterprises Ltd, the flagship company of the group, and the Maharashtra government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up the 1 GW (gigawatt) hyperscale data infrastructures. Adani Group will invest Rs. 50,000crore over the next 10 years in setting up the data centre, the apples-to-airport conglomerate said on Wednesday. The project, powered entirely by renewable energy, aims to create 20,000 jobs and generate direct and indirect employment, contributing significantly to the economic landscape of the state.

The data centers infrastructure will be set up in prime locations like Mumbai or Navi Mumbai and Pune, which will be backed by renewable energy. This initiative will enhance the green energy infrastructure of Maharashtra and it provides direct and indirect employment to 20,000 people.

Maharashtra Government is willing to welcome such information technology related infrastructure and considering the proposed infrastructure as effective, economically viable and socially beneficial for the state.

With this noble initiative by Adani, Maharashtra will transform itself to be providing largest share renewable energy from having the minimal share of it. After the installation, Mumbai’s green energy share will surpass many of the major metro cities.

In 2023, Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd supplied up to 38 per cent of Mumbai consumers' electricity from renewable sources, and is targeting to reach 60 per cent by 2027. Adani Group will also invest Rs.12,400 crore to set up a 100-megawatt data centre in Telangana, while Adani Green Energy, Ambuja Cements, and Adani Defence Systems and Technologies also signed deals to set up projects in the state.
