Macrotech Developers MD Abhishek Lodha clarified on Sunday that the ongoing dispute with the House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL) is purely a corporate issue, not a family matter.
Macrotech has filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against HoABL, led by his younger brother Abhinandan Lodha, over trademark infringement. The company is seeking legal action, including injunctions and damages.
In an interview with PTI, Abhishek Lodha emphasized that he has no issues with his brother pursuing a real estate business but stressed that Macrotech has the right to protect its trademarks, "Lodha" and "Lodha Group," which have been built over decades.
He highlighted that consumers must be informed about which company they are dealing with, especially with the brand being integral to Macrotech’s identity.
Macrotech, a publicly listed real estate giant, has significant global investors, and Abhishek noted that the lawsuit was necessary to safeguard the interests of both consumers and shareholders. He expressed his affection for his brother, stating that while he supports him, the trademark issue is a straightforward legal matter, one that the company must address to avoid brand dilution.
The House of Abhinandan Lodha focuses on plotted developments across various cities, including Ayodhya, while Macrotech continues to be a leading player in India’s real estate sector. Abhishek's comments aimed to separate personal relationships from legal action, emphasizing that it is a matter of business integrity and consumer rights.
Abhinandan Lodha left Macrotech Developers (formerly Lodha Developers) in 2015 to start his own venture.
In response to the lawsuit filed in the high court, HoABL Founder Abhinandan Lodha stated last week that Macrotech Developers is "unable to accept" his company's success.
