The East-west connector Reay Road over bridge will be Ready by March 2024

MahaRail, the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, commenced the construction of Cable Stayed Road Over Bridges at Reay Road in February 2022 and has accomplished 70% of the civil work to date.

The completion of the bridge construction is scheduled for May 2024, pending the clearance of all Right of Way (ROW) as stated by MahaRail authorities. Once finished, the bridge will be made accessible to traffic.

According to the statement of officials the work is almost complete and the girder and superstructure work is in progress.

An official of MRIDC quoted, "As of date, about 70% of work for this cable-stayed ROB is complete. If all right of way (ROW) is cleared, we will by May finish constructing the bridge, which started in February 2022."

The sources said, Mumbai port Trust (MbPT) and Central Railway are required to move a ticket counter and 15 GI sheds from the workshop, while 130 huts have been cleared.

The official of MRIDC also added, “The new cable-stayed ROB with a longer span minimizes infringements with underground utilities. It will have six lanes with footpaths for pedestrians and smooth traffic.”

The footbridge will consist of six lanes and pedestrian footpaths. It spans a length of 385 meters and is estimated to cost Rs. 145 crore. Moreover, the bridge structures are designed to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic beneath Barrister Nath Pai Road, while also ensuring sufficient vertical clearance for vehicles passing under the Eastern freeway. Furthermore, MRIDC has incorporated architectural LED lighting into the design to enhance the overall visual appeal of the footbridge.
