HMRTC soon to launch two new metro routes in Gurugram

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has nodded for the construction of two new Metro routes in Gurugram, according to the officials. This decision of new launch of metro station will help to give a strong push for the expansion of the network of metro rail in the city.

The decision will drive significant expansion of the Metro rail in the city, extending the network to densely populated areas and linking them with major business districts.

On August 6, during the 57th HMRTC board meeting in Chandigarh chaired by Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad, officials approved the new Metro routes from Bhondsi village to Gurugram railway station and from Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5.

A senior official informed that, the HMRTC is planning to hire consultants to prepare detailed project reports for the two routes.

The official noted that the first proposed route, extending 17 km from Bhondsi village to Gurugram railway station, will pass through Vatika Chowk, Subash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sadar Bazar, and the Gurugram bus stand. This route will mainly follow Sohna Road, linking with the planned Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar RRTS line at Rajiv Chowk and the existing Metro extension from Millennium City Centre Metro station at the Gurugram railway station.

The second route will be 13km in length  and it is designed to connect  Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5, with stops at Millennium City Centre Metro station, Signature Tower crossing, Rana Pratap Chowk, and Atul Kataria Chowk. The officials also said that the route will be parallel to the Sheetla Mata Road.

During the queries made about the proposed routes Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) adviser (mobility) Yash Sachdeva mentioned that, the routes are the part of the authority’s proposal to build a large Metro network across the city by 2031.

he also mentioned, “These two routes cover the most densely populated areas of the city, along with key business districts. A large number of people will be connected once these routes become operational. The network on these routes will be connected with the RRTS network along the national highway and Gurugram metro extension project which is underway.”

Previous year Haryana government created Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) which is a special purpose vehicle to execute the 28.5km Metro extension project from Millennium City Centre to Cyber Hub, which will bring a large part of the city under the Metro network.

According to a senior official the work on geo-technical survey of the route has been almost finished and they are now in the process of hiring a design and general consultant to execute the project.
