Center Govt. extends deadline of smart city mission with 10% unfinished project

The Central government has agreed to extend the Smart Cities Mission until March 2025 in response to the request from Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

The Chief Marketing Officer's statement mentioned that Reddy, during his recent trip to the national capital, had a meeting with Union minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar. Reddy requested an extension of the deadline for the Smart City Mission until June, 2025.

CM Revanth Reddy urged the Central government to extend the Smart City Mission until all the works are finished, emphasizing the importance of the public's welfare. 

                                        

According to the press release,the Union government has written a letter to the states, extending the Smart City Mission until March 31, 2025, in a favorable response.

The completion of the Smart City mission by June-end was previously targeted by the Centre.

Numerous projects have been initiated in Warangal and Karimnagar as part of the Smart Cities Mission in the state. A total of 45 projects have been successfully finished in Warangal, with an additional 66 projects, amounting to Rs.518 crore, currently in progress.

Initiated in 2015, the Smart Cities Mission encompasses 100 cities chosen through multiple competitive rounds conducted between January 2016 and June 2018. These cities were granted a five-year timeframe from their selection to finalize the proposed projects, resulting in initial deadlines spanning from 2021 to 2023.

The Smart Cities Mission dashboard of the Ministry indicated that 7,118 projects worth Rs.1.43 lakh crore out of a total of 7,996 projects worth Rs. 1.64 lakh crore had been finished as of June 7. Meanwhile, 878 projects worth Rs 21,189 crore were still in progress as of the same date. It has been reported that the cities may need approximately six more months to complete the ongoing projects.

The official correspondence from the Centre has confirmed that the authorized projects will proceed as planned, with no new projects being approved. Funding for current projects will be disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis until September of this year. The Centre has recommended expediting the completion of these projects.
