Addressing the deadly heatwaves, PM underscores on preventive measures

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, during a recent meeting focused on the readiness for the approaching heatwave season, received a briefing on the temperature forecast from April to June 2024.

The forecast anticipates higher-than-average maximum temperatures across the majority of the nation, especially in Central India and the western peninsular region.

The discussion during the meeting also centered around the preparedness of the healthcare industry, specifically addressing the accessibility of vital medications, IV fluids, cold compresses, oral rehydration solution (ORS), and potable water.

In light of the upcoming General Elections in 2024, which aligns with the anticipation of an unusually warm summer, the Prime Minister has underscored the importance of promptly sharing crucial IEC/awareness content in regional languages through various mediums such as television, radio, and social media.

The Prime Minister championed a comprehensive Government strategy, urging all branches of the government at the Central, State, and District levels, along with various Ministries, to collaborate effectively. He emphasized the significance of raising awareness and ensuring sufficient preparedness in hospitals, while also underscoring the necessity of promptly detecting and extinguishing forest fires.

The attendees of the meeting included the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Home Secretary, representatives from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), and the National Disaster Management Authority.
