CGBMT hosts Bamboo Habba 2024 in their newly opened Five-acre Campus

The Bamboo Habba 2024 demonstrated bamboo's adaptability and sustainability. The Centre for Green Building Material and Technology (CGBMT) hosted the event at their recently opened five-acre site, and it was well attended.

A number of important courses were offered throughout the festival, such as Bamboo Plantation on September 15 and 16, Product Design on September 17 and 19, and Building Design and Construction on September 20 and 24, 2024. At their new location, CGBMT will still regularly provide training and courses on sustainable development and practices.

The event featured a number of seminars, bamboo music, a fashion show (where the outfits also featured bamboo), exhibitions, and Q&A sessions with experts to highlight the potential of bamboo in sustainable development.

Participants learned about the use of bamboo in contemporary building and how it helps to slow down global warming.

Scientists, government representatives, well-known architects, students from different government and private schools, and local villagers all turned out for the ceremony. Dr. Brijesh Kumar Dikshit, IFS, PCCF, and HFfF of the Karnataka government, who gave the keynote address, underlined the need of increasing green cover and the noteworthy role bamboo plays in this regard.

Ar. Prof. Neelam Manjunath, CGBMT's founder, chairman, and CEO, drove the project with a strong desire to promote bamboo culture. She said, "This event is a step towards creating an appreciation of our rich bamboo culture and supporting a sustainable lifestyle."

It is critical to highlight India's innovative role in bamboo manufacturing and its environmental benefits as September 18th, World Bamboo Day, draws near. This project is being led by Bengaluru, whose population has increased from 1.2 million in 1960 to 13 million now.

Leading the way in nature-based solutions to address urban air and water pollution is the Bamboo City project, led by architect Neelam Manjunath and featured at the C40 Cities Woman4Climate program as well as BBMP's Climate Action Plan in partnership with WRI. A key component of the project's construction is bamboo.

With an objective of carbon neutrality by 2030, this project will be in line with the Climate Action Plan, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve climate resilience. The project advances environmental and social goals, creates economic possibilities, and promotes sustainable development by utilizing bamboo.

The pilot city will be Bengaluru, and CGBMT will function as a test facility for these advances. Beginning with Bengaluru, Ar. Neelam Manjunath's framework aims to make 101 cities worldwide and at least 11 Indian cities carbon neutral and regenerative during the next ten years.

The Bamboo Habba 2024 will feature a number of important workshops, such as the Bamboo Plantation on September 15 and 16, the Product Design workshop from September 17 to 19, and the Building Design and Construction workshop from September 20 to 24, 2024. From its new campus, CGBMT will regularly offer training sessions and workshops on sustainable development and practices.

The Center for Green Building Materials and Technology (CGBMT) is dedicated to advancing eco-friendly technologies and creating a more sustainable built environment by supporting green building practices and cutting-edge green materials.
