PRIYAM: A Minimalist Landscape Retreat

PRIYAM is a true example of how minimalist design can thrive in an urban setting, seamlessly merging landscape and architecture to create a serene retreat. Located in Hyderabad.

This home began its journey in 2011 and weathered significant challenges due to the pandemic. Despite the delays, the design remains a testament to minimalist elegance and modern functionality, demonstrating how thoughtful spatial planning can transcend constraints.

Key Highlights of PRIYAM:

Minimalism Meets Functionality: The design focuses on preserving the expansive feel of the outdoor spaces despite being situated in a high-density area. Kiasma Studio’s solution integrates multi-functional zones for relaxation and social gatherings without compromising the minimalist aesthetic.

Harmonising with Nature: One of the most distinctive aspects of PRIYAM is the integration of 100-year-old trees, which provide a natural canopy and dictate the zoning of the outdoor spaces. The absence of traditional structures like pergolas allows nature to take centre stage.

Signature Features: The handcrafted reflective stone bench is a standout feature, capturing the surrounding sky and trees to create a dynamic, living artwork that evolves with the light and weather. Additionally, invisible metal privacy screens maintain openness while providing necessary privacy, a subtle yet innovative solution that aligns with the minimalist ethos.

Sustainability at its Core: landscape reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility through the use of locally sourced materials and the preservation of mature trees. This approach not only mitigates the environmental impact but also ensures that the design complements the natural surroundings.

Pandemic Challenges and Adaptations: Despite delays due to the pandemic led to innovative adaptations, including the use of local resources to overcome supply chain issues. This resilient approach underscores the team’s commitment to sustainability and flexibility.

Overall The landscape enhances the architecture by creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor areas. With expansive open spaces and carefully selected foliage, the design offers a private and serene sanctuary within the urban context.
