MAP is Back with Brand New Course Called Contemporary Art & Culture

Bangalore is now adorned with the storehouse of art and architecture through the building of famous The Museum of Art and Photography (MAP) designed by Mathew and Ghosh Architects. The seven storied building stands in the heart of Bangalore city having a sculpture adorned rooftop a part of which has a big dining room constitutes the artworks by Kodanda Rao Teppala, Smoor café in the basement, with an auditorium, conservation room, and a library. Recently MAP Academy delightfully announced about the launch of its short course, Modern and Contemporary Indian Art.  This course will explain about the facts and art forms giving stress on contemporary concerns, and advances and shifts in art-making. This crash course is designed as entirely free-for-all and self-paced online program, which is bringing out a new era of tech-enabled cultural education, removing major barriers and meeting the demands of a more visually engaged and curious public.

The course author Dr Beth Citron opined that, “Too often modern and contemporary Indian art is considered intimidating or inaccessible, and it can be challenging to know where to start. The course is designed to ensure that it is not only introductory to all but also empowering. It will equip learners with a sense of chronology, a strong visual vocabulary, the ability to discuss works by a range of seminal artists and engage in critical conversations. While no course can cover everything, my hope is that this short course will encourage learners to engage more deeply with this dynamic subject and inspire a lifelong interest in art.”

The whole range of programs and curriculum will be authored by art historian Dr Beth Citron, and edited and produced by the MAP Academy. The whole course will include videos, illustrated texts and interactive quizzes, providing learners with a Certificate of Completion. The course will educate you about major developments in art from the late-19th and early-20th century to the present day, examining questions of nationhood, modernity, self-expression, identities and globalization within a very short period of 4.5 hours. They will discuss thoroughly about the modern art forms and it will provide a sensitive entry point through which one can reflect upon histories as well as present-day issues.

Last year they kick-started Encyclopedia of Art, and its first short course, Textiles from the Indian Subcontinent, and has since built a worldwide community of thousands of learners, online. This program consisted of introductory modules on photography, narrative painting, architecture, archaeology and sculpture that are scheduled to go live in the coming years. This course will engage wider audiences and cultivating an unparalleled online learning environment.

This crash course will throw light on renowned and scholar artists as Abanindranath Tagore, Amrita Sher-Gil, Zarina Hashmi, Sudhir Patwardhan, Bhupen Khakhar, Navjot Altaf and Shilpa Gupta and more. The course will include few more scholar and advisors like Dr Annapurna Garimella, Dr Diva Gujral and Mayank Mansingh Kaul, among others, and it will offer diverse approaches and perspectives and approaches for serving as the leading educational platform on South Asian art histories.
