KYNKYNY Art Gallery Presents Ephemeral Homelands: A Solo Exhibition by Siddharth Shingade

KYNKYNY Art Gallery is proud to announce the opening of "Ephemeral Homelands," a solo exhibition showcasing the recent works of contemporary artist Siddharth Shingade. The exhibition, running from March 21st to April 18th, 2025, invites viewers on a deeply personal journey through the rural landscapes of Marathwada, Maharashtra.

Siddharth Shingade's acrylics on canvas are a vibrant tapestry of memories, cultural traditions, and community life, reflecting his profound connection to his childhood home in Tuljapur. Once a serene village where he spent the first twenty years of his life, Tuljapur has transformed into a bustling city, yet Shingade carries its essence within him, translating his remembrances into richly layered, poetic artworks.

"Ephemeral Homelands" marks a significant evolution in Shingade's style, featuring a brighter, more hopeful palette dominated by sunflower yellows and ocean blues, alongside his signature earthy tones. The figures in his paintings gain a newfound three-dimensionality, set against backdrops that radiate the freshness of spring time.

Inspired by the intricate patchwork quilts of nomadic gypsy women, Shingade's works are structured like embroidered "chaddars," filled with exquisite detailing and rich storytelling. He seamlessly blends mythology with rustic scenes, portraying everyday figures as divine beings. Nature plays a pivotal role, with human forms intertwined with flora and fauna — men and women with dark-toned complexions that match the colour of the soil that pervades the region, reflecting a deep oneness with the landscape.

Shingade's art transcends mere nostalgia, celebrating the resilience and wisdom of Marathwada's people. While capturing the pastoral beauty of the region, his paintings also hint at the hardships faced by its inhabitants, living in a drought-prone and ecologically fragile environment. Above all, Shingade’s art is an ode to the wisdom, resilience and endurance of nameless, faceless and often voiceless men and women from India’s rural hinterlands.
