The courtyard house, Vasai
Located in the culturally rich town of Vasai, known for its historical ties to Goan and Portuguese influences, The Courtyard House is a modern reinterpretation of traditional architecture. Vasai’s homes have long featured interactive spaces like the otla or veranda, and this design draws inspiration from these communal areas, reimagining them in a contemporary setting.
The bungalow sits amidst a vibrant landscape, surrounded by lush vegetation and a serene pond, perfectly complementing the town’s deep connection to nature. The focal point of the home is its expansive courtyard, a double-height space with a glass roof that connects the interior to the outside world, offering a view of the sky for stargazing and sunlight. This courtyard serves as a dynamic hub, bridging the indoor living spaces and nature.
Flowing from the courtyard, a spacious living area opens up, leading into an elegantly designed kitchen with an island counter, creating a natural gathering point. The home features two bedrooms: a guest room and a master suite, both reflecting the simplicity and biophilic touches that characterize the overall design. The master bedroom is especially designed to integrate nature within, resonating with the client’s deep connection to the environment.
Incorporating materials thoughtfully chosen for their simplicity and elegance, the house beautifully reflects Vasai’s architectural heritage while infusing modern functionality.
