TN Govt allots Rs. 400 crores to accelerate 'Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam' Housing Scheme

The 360 square foot built-up areas of the houses under the scheme include a kitchen. The state-run TN Cements Corporation supplied the beneficiaries with building supplies like steel bars and cement at discounted rates.

Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Wednesday that an additional Rs. 400 crore has been released to expedite construction work under the state housing scheme, Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam. The funds will be credited directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

According to the current stage of construction, a total of Rs. 1,451 crores, including the additional fund release, is being distributed to beneficiaries, he said.

According to an official release here, the money is being credited under DBT in four installments through a single nodal account. To date, beneficiaries have received payments totaling Rs. 860.31 crore, and construction material payouts have totaled Rs. 135.30 crore.

In order to build one lakh new concrete houses under the 'Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam,' or 'Kalaignar's dream home,' scheme for the year 2024–2025, orders have already been issued for the release of Rs. 3,500 crores, at the rate of Rs. 3.50 lakh per house, and related construction work is currently underway.

According to a survey, there are eight lakh huts in Tamil Nadu's rural areas. The government has announced plans to build eight lakh new houses by 2030 in order to upgrade these tenements to concrete homes. According to that announcement, plans are underway to construct one lakh homes between 2024 and 2025.
