The project brief focused on creating a contemporary, low-maintenance home that reflects their artistic sensibilities while ensuring modern comfort and style. They wanted a space that seamlessly integrated with its surroundings, offering a tranquil, understated luxury without overwhelming its context.

The design needed to balance aesthetics with practicality, emphasising materials, and finishes that require minimal upkeep. Additionally, the family desired a residence that fosters togetherness while allowing individual expression through eclectic yet cohesive design elements, making it a blend of personal taste and refined elegance.

The client is a family with a deep appreciation for art and creativity, valuing aesthetic and functional aspects of their living space. Their lifestyle is rooted in simplicity and sophistication, favouring designs that are timeless and easy to maintain. They cherish moments of togetherness and desire a home that reflects this, with spaces that encourage family interaction and social gatherings. Their preference for diverse interior settings, featuring a mix of modern and vintage elements, drove the selection of unique furniture and art pieces that resonate with their eclectic taste.

The residential project, titled "Abode of Cosmic Calm," is situated in the heart of Nagpur, India. It spans a generous area of 10,000 square feet, accommodating a thoughtfully designed four-storey bungalow. This expansive home serves as a serene retreat, blending contemporary style with subtle luxury, reflecting the client's desire for a spacious, art-filled environment that harmonises with its surroundings. The design effortlessly utilises the extensive space to create a series of distinctive, yet interconnected, areas that cater to the diverse needs and tastes of the family, balancing privacy with communal living.

The dining areas were designed to reflect distinct atmospheres, each catering to different moods and functions. The first dining space features an elliptical marble table paired with nearby love seats, creating an inviting area for relaxed meals and engaging conversations. This setup emphasises comfort and versatility. Conversely, the second dining area boasts an edgy rectangular wooden table with chairs in pale gold and suede upholstery, offering a warm, earthy ambiance. This diversity caters to varied dining experiences while ensuring cohesion with the home’s overall aesthetic, blending functionality with style seamlessly.

The kitchen design prioritises functionality and aesthetic cohesion. It artfully integrates with the contemporary theme of the home while emphasising practicality. High-quality materials and sleek finishes contribute to a modern look, with a layout that supports efficient workflow. Custom cabinetry enhances both storage and workspace, reflecting a balance between elegance and usability. The design has integrated appliances to maintain a streamlined appearance, while strategically placed lighting ensures a well-lit, inviting cooking environment. The kitchen serves as a functional area for daily use and a stylish component of the home's overall design narrative.

Each bedroom in the Abode of Cosmic Calm is uniquely tailored to its occupant, blending personal comfort with artistic elements. The master bedroom features a marble backdrop that conceals the television, merging earthy tones with ethnic design influences. Herringbone wooden flooring adds a touch of classic elegance, complemented by contemporary furnishings. Other bedrooms also reflect individuality, with thoughtful design elements that include curated art pieces and distinctive colour schemes. Common to all rooms is the integration of art, which adds a cohesive, personal touch throughout the home, creating spaces that are restful and inspiring.

The colour palette of the Abode of Cosmic Calm blends earthy tones with vibrant accents to create a serene yet dynamic atmosphere. Shades of deep olive, ochre, and blue provide a foundation of sophistication and warmth. Earthy hues in the master bedroom and dining areas contribute to a timeless, inviting feel. Further, accents of pale gold and blue introduce subtle highlights and create visual interest. This thoughtful combination enhances the contemporary style of the home while maintaining a balance with the surrounding environment. The palette supports the artful narrative of the home, integrating personal taste with elegant simplicity.

Materials were selected to align with the aesthetic and practical requirements of the home. Marble, used in entryways and the dining table, evokes grandeur, offering elegance and durability, requiring minimal upkeep. Wood, featured in flooring and cabinetry, adds warmth and a classic touch. The combination of these materials supports the maintenance-free aspect of the design while contributing to a cohesive look. Each material was chosen for its visual appeal as well as its functional qualities, ensuring the home remains stylish and easy to care for while enhancing its charm.

The design incorporates a mix of natural and artificial lighting to create a dynamic environment. Strategic placement of recessed lighting and pendant fixtures highlights key design elements and artwork, while backlit panels and decorative sconces add warmth and visual interest. The goal was to ensure each space was well-lit for daily activities while accentuating the decor elements of a home. The lighting choices support the contemporary style and complement the overall aesthetic, blending efficiency with elegance.
