PMAY-G gets Approval of 40 lakh Homes & set target for 84 lakh Homes in FY25

The Ministry of Rural Development informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday that significant progress has been made under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna-Gramin (PMAY-G). Out of the 84.37 lakh houses targeted for construction in 2024-25, over 39.82 lakh have already been sanctioned as of February 2, 2025. Minister of State for Rural Development, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, provided a written reply detailing the scheme's progress.

The 2024-25 target encompasses 18 states: Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

A specific target of 46.57 lakh houses was allocated to nine of these states (Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka) for the months of December 2024 and January 2025.

The PMAY-G aims to provide affordable housing to rural populations. The significant number of sanctions reflects the government's commitment to achieving this goal.  The construction of these houses will not only provide shelter but also contribute to rural development and economic growth.

The Union Cabinet's prior approval for the continuation of the PMAY-G from 2024-25 to 2028-29, with a target of an additional two crore houses, further emphasizes the government's long-term vision for rural housing. This ongoing initiative seeks to address housing needs and improve living standards in rural areas across India.
