Nithin Kamath suggests for Air Quality-Based Property Pricing in Delhi & Bengaluru

Zerodha's Nithin Kamath proposes linking property prices to air and water quality to combat pollution in India.

In a detailed post on X, he questioned what it would take for society to prioritize air pollution more seriously, pointing out that the data available only goes up to 2019 and those conditions have worsened in the past five years. He also shared a newspaper article highlighting deaths caused by air pollution in India.

Zerodha Co-Founder Nithin Kamath has shared a radical idea of linking property prices with air and water quality to help keep the pollution levels down. "You have to wonder what it will take for us to take air pollution more seriously. By the way, this data only covers until 2019, and things have only gotten worse in the last five years," he said in a lengthy post on X, sharing a newspaper clipping on air pollution related deaths in India.

Kamath proposed that offering "a property price discount" based on air and water quality could help address the increasing pollution levels in cities across the country. He stated that if economic factors were taken into account, it might lead to a solution. He explained that the quality of air and water should influence property values, suggesting that this connection would encourage property owners to take greater responsibility for their environment.

In a recent statement, Nithin Kamath, Co-Founder of Zerodha, shared his vision for addressing pollution in urban areas. He suggested that if property owners shifted their focus from just maintaining their own properties in JP Nagar to caring for the entire neighborhood, it could lead to better outcomes for the community.
