Modi 3.0: 30 million Urban Homes to be built under 'Housing for All' scheme

The approval of Union Cabinet to build 3 crore houses under the scheme of PMAY. This significant move intended to maintain continuousness to the ‘Housing for All Scheme’ which is projected to recover the affordable housing segment.

After few hours of taking oath for a third consecutive tenure, PM Narendra Modi’s new Union ministry articulated its first key policy decision to give assistance for the construction of 30 million additional rural and urban homes under PMAY – Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Indian Government has been executing the PMAY scheme since 2025 to 2026 for providing financial assistance to qualified urban and rural households for building homes with basic amenities. 

With the reference on his post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "This decision underscores the government's commitment to addressing the housing needs of our nation and ensuring that every citizen leads a better quality of life. The expansion of PMAY also highlights our government's commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare”.

Expressing his views on this vital move by the central government, Anshul Jain, Chief Executive, India & SE Asia & APAC Tenant Representation, Cushman & Wakefield says, “The decision by the newly elected cabinet to facilitate the construction of 3 crore homes across rural and urban areas under PMAY has set the tone for the next 5 years in terms of the Government’s priorities towards sustaining Housing and Infrastructural growth”.

"Apart from facilitating home ownership at the grassroot level, we also expect this to provide a boost to the local economies across Tier III, IV regions in particular, owing to the impending infrastructural development in the forthcoming months and years”, Anshul added.

Similarly, Anuj Puri, Chairman, ANAROCK Group states, “The downward spiral of this erstwhile poster child of the Indian housing industry began during the pandemic, and then morphed into a broader malaise. An affordable housing revival hinges on such government incentives for buyers and developers”.
