Kejriwal Proposes Joint Housing Scheme for Delhi Government Employees

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP, announced on Sunday that he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to suggest a shared housing plan for government workers in Delhi, which is scheduled to hold an assembly election on February 5.

At a press conference held here, Kejriwal stated that he has urged the prime minister to grant the Delhi government land at "highly subsidised" rates so that it can construct homes for its employees, who can make easy payments in the final stages of their employment. The A supremo is running in the February 5 Assembly elections from the New Delhi constituency, which is governed by NDMC, the civic organization.

In order to ensure that government employees lived comfortably and with dignity, Kejriwal highlighted the struggles faced by them, particularly those of Safai Karmcharis after retirement. To this end, he proposed the joint housing scheme.

According to Kejriwal, the proposed program can be tested first with workers from the Delhi Municipal Council and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi before being made available to all government workers in Delhi.

He stated that the Delhi government does not own land in the national capital, so once the A takes back power, they will build affordable housing units on land provided by the Center.

“A big issue in Delhi is housing, especially for the underprivileged. It's nearly impossible to rent or own a home,” Kejriwal said.

"Their pensions are insufficient to afford rented housing nor do they have enough savings to buy a house for themselves," he stated.
