Housing target set for 2025 - Rural Development Ministry sanctions 10 Lakh Homes

As part of its goals for 2024–2025, the Rural Development Ministry announced on Wednesday that it will prioritize authorizing 10 lakh homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMJAY-G) in January.

According to an official release, the ministry would establish monthly targets to guarantee the timely execution of rural development programs and to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of an India free of poverty.

At a ministry meeting, the decisions were made regarding the month's activity plan.

Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a post on X, "Poverty-free villages are Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge. Today, on the first day of new year, we have set some target”.

"The schemes of the Rural Development Ministry are bringing a change in the lives of people. The effort is to ensure that all the beneficiaries get the benefits of these schemes in an effective and transparent manner as soon as possible," he added.

"In January 2025, emphasis will be laid on sanctioning the pending 10 lakh houses against the target allocated earlier in the year 2024-25 and the first instalment will also be released to the beneficiaries," the official statement from rural development board said.

According to Chouhan, the ministry's goals will be established on a monthly basis going forward and attempts would be made to meet them.

Chouhan urged the officials to strive toward the goal within the next month after reviewing the work being done under various programs, including the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), PM-Awas, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, and DAY-NRLM.

In August, the PMAY-G was extended for an additional five years, with the goal of constructing two crore more homes between 2024 and 2029.

To help more families take advantage of the program and meet the aim of housing for all, three significant changes have been made to the eligibility requirements.

The statement further added, "There has been a continuous increase in the year-wise budget for the housing scheme and the highest budget of Rs. 54,500 crore has been allocated for the financial year 2024-25”.
