Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Tuesday that the state government will provide housing to underprivileged families under both the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana. The government plans to allocate 100-square-yard plots to eligible individuals in phases, as part of the initiative.
Saini made this statement during a review meeting of the Housing for All Department at the state secretariat. The plots will be located in developed colonies, offering all basic amenities, much like those found in urban areas. The government has allocated Rs. 100 crore for the scheme’s implementation.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that eligible families can finance their flat or plot allotments through banks. This measure is intended to ensure that families who may not be able to make lump sum payments are still able to benefit from the housing schemes.
The schemes target families in Haryana who do not own a house, land to build a house, or a flat, and have an annual income of less than Rs. 1.80 lakh. Over 5 lakh applicants have expressed interest in 100-square-yard plots under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana, and all eligible beneficiaries will receive their plots in phases. In the case of the other scheme, 50-square-yard plots will be allotted in rural panchayats.
Additionally, more than 2.89 lakh families in urban areas have applied for housing under the Mukhyamantri Shahri Awas Yojana. Out of these, 1.51 lakh applicants have requested plots, while 1.38 lakh have applied for flats. Last year, provisional allotment letters were issued to 15,256 applicants.
