Govt under talks to maximize the Income norms to avail PMAY Housing Scheme

According to the sources aware of the housing development, the Indian government is anticipated to release new guidelines and income levels for middle income groups (MIGs) in order for them to be eligible for assistance in building houses in urban areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) scheme.

One of them claims that a Cabinet note has been moved that calls for increasing central assistance for the economically weaker (EWS) category by 1.5 lakh per house and widening the income range for MIGs.

On Monday, Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu informed the Rajya Sabha that women have been given access to more than 89 lakh houses under the poor’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) program.

According to him, the scheme has approved Rs.2 lakh crore in central assistance, of which Rs.1.64 lakh crore has been distributed to states, union territories, and central led departments.

In view of task proposition presented by the state/association domain legislatures under PMAY-Urban, a sum of 118.64 lakh houses, with an all-out speculation of Rs.8.07 lakh crore including Focal help of Rs.2 lakh crore, have been endorsed by the service, out of which 114.40 lakh have been grounded and 85.43 lakh are finished/conveyed to the recipients in metropolitan regions up to this point, the Minister further expressed.

Additionally, the Minister presented the information regarding the PMAY scheme’s allocation of houses to each state. With an investment of Rs.10 lakh crore and central government's assistance of Rs.2.20 lakh crore, PMAY-Urban 2.0 aims to address the housing needs of one million urban poor and middle-class families, as outlined in Budget 2024-2025.
