DTCP bans 150 illegally-constructed Flats in Luxury Locality 'Palam Vihar'

DTCP had previously sealed these apartments last month, authorities claimed that the owners had broken the seals and had started building again without authorization.

About 150 illegally built apartments in Palam Vihar's C2 Block are scheduled to be sealed by the Department of Town and Country Planning's (DTCP) enforcement wing, according to DTCP officials on Sunday.

The rule only allows for four stories per plot, so the plot owners were breaking both building codes and urban development laws by adding multiple apartments to each of the ten plots, according to officials.

Locals, particularly those living in Palam Vihar's C2 block, have also petitioned the Punjab and Haryana high court, claiming that these unauthorized constructions are interfering with essential services like the sewage system, electricity, water supply, and roads.

A former RWA president, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated, "The apartments were built without following the regulations, and the RWA lodged a complaint against these developments in 2020. We have also filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which has issued notices to all the stakeholders concerned."

These apartments were previously sealed by the DTCP last month, but authorities claimed the owners had broken the seals and had started building again without authorization.

According to officials, the department intends to take legal action against the violators by filing criminal complaints and resealing the properties.

Amit Madholia, District Town Planner (enforcement), stated, "We have also written to the revenue department to stop the registration of the sale and purchase of these illegal flats, as they are in complete violation of rules."
