Dharavi Residents get Alert to finish Survey to avoid delay in receiving Documents

Dharavi residents refusing to participate in the eligibility survey have been warned they will be classified under the "Documents Not Received" category in the draft annexure II, according to Navbharat Mega Developers, the special purpose vehicle handling the Dharavi Redevelopment Project.

In a press release issued Thursday, NMDPL stated that 80,000 tenements had been surveyed so far. Posters have been put up in lanes, societies, and homes where residents have resisted participation.

NMDPL CEO SVR Srinivas explained that these notices were posted after multiple attempts at door-to-door surveys.

He urged residents to cooperate to speed up the process, emphasizing that the goal is "housing for all" and ensuring no one is left out. He also mentioned that the survey for non-cooperative residents might soon be concluded without their participation.

The state government has clarified that only residents eligible for free housing—those living in Dharavi before 2011—will be rehabilitated within Dharavi. Others deemed ineligible will be offered rental housing on salt pan lands in the eastern suburbs, dairy land in Kurla, the Deonar dumping ground, and Madh-Marve in Malad. After ten years, these rented homes will be transferred on an ownership basis.

Meanwhile, opposition parties, including Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), have opposed the relocation, demanding free housing for all within Dharavi. Additionally, several neighborhoods have resisted accepting relocated residents, citing a lack of infrastructure to accommodate them.

Dharavi residents who do not cooperate with the eligibility survey will be categorized under "Documents Not Received" in the draft annexure II, according to Navbharat Mega Developers, the special purpose vehicle responsible for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project.
