The Andhra Pradesh government is set to officially hand over keys to approximately 1.14 lakh beneficiaries of its housing scheme on February 1. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lead a mass housewarming ceremony in Thetali village, Tanuku constituency.
Ministers, legislators, and ruling party leaders have been instructed to begin the program in their constituencies following the CM’s launch.
Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasaradhi stated that despite the severe financial challenges left by the previous YSRCP government, the state completed the construction of 1.14 lakh houses in just six months.
The Chief Minister has also directed district collectors and legislators to begin identifying plots for the poor, with plans to allocate three cents of land in rural areas and two cents in urban areas. A high-level committee, led by the revenue minister, has been formed at the state level, with district committees headed by district collectors. Guidelines for the house-sites scheme will be issued soon.
The Chief Minister is committed to ensuring every eligible poor family in the state receives a permanent home. Parthasaradhi criticized the previous government for diverting Rs. 4,500 crore allocated by the Centre for the housing scheme, which caused delays and difficulties for beneficiaries. To resolve this, the current government has already released Rs. 502 crore to clear outstanding dues. The minister also assured that bills for houses completed between 2014-19 will be settled, accusing the previous government of withholding Rs. 900 crore to poor beneficiaries because the houses were initiated under the TDP regime.
