In a significant move to honor its election promises, the state government has announced that house sites will be allotted exclusively to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme. On Monday, Special Chief Secretary (Revenue) RP Sisodia unveiled detailed guidelines for implementing the program.
As per the plan, eligible BPL families will receive 3 cents of land in rural areas and 2 cents in urban areas. Sisodia confirmed that the government will issue conveyance deeds for the allotted land, granting freehold rights with a 10-year restriction period. Beneficiaries will gain full ownership, including the right to sell, after 10 years.
However, they are required to begin constructing their homes within two years of receiving the house site.
To ensure fair implementation, the guidelines mandate that free house-site pattas will be granted only once in a lifetime. Beneficiaries must be BPL families without any existing residential land or house in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, those who have previously availed of housing schemes by the Central or state government will not qualify.
The government has formed a state-level committee led by the revenue minister, with the Municipal Administration and Housing Ministers as members, to oversee the program. A high-level officials' committee has also been established to ensure smooth interdepartmental coordination. At the district level, the district collector will chair a committee to ensure effective implementation of the scheme.
This initiative aims to provide secure housing opportunities for BPL families while maintaining strict eligibility criteria and operational guidelines.
