"If residents do not get 500 sq ft homes then Dharavi will be scrapped", says Aditya Thackeray, MVA Leader

UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray stated on Sunday that the Maha Vikas Aghadi would cancel the Dharavi redevelopment project if residents are not provided with 500 square foot homes.

He made this statement at the 'Dharavi Bachao' rally organized by the MVA, which also includes the Congress and Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Thackeray criticized the state government for prioritizing the Adani group's development over the needs of Dharavi residents through the project. He assured that the MVA would ensure the rehabilitation of all Dharavi residents at their current location.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Worli MLA stated that, as part of the Mumbadevi Temple beautification project, a section of land has been allocated to a contractor for parking construction, displacing local shopkeepers.

He further claimed that the Waqf Board issue was manufactured to incite discord and emphasized that the Shiv Sena (UBT) will not permit the Waqf Board or temple premises to be handed over to builders.

In a statement he said,"In 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party promised to deposit Rs.15 lakh into each Indian's bank account, but now they are offering only Rs.1500. The BJP aims to create social divides to win elections, but Maharashtra will resist this. When the MVA government comes to power, it will ensure that residents receive 500 square foot homes or else the project will be scrapped."
