In this context, the word `vernacular' comes from the Latin word `vernaculus' means `domestic or native', usually related to a country. Its etymological origin already tells us what vernacular architecture is ­ a design that identifies a specific region that is also native to where the material source. So, vernacularism is about catering to individual and community needs and abilities by leveraging natural resources. Although the features of vernacular architecture differ worldwide, they uniquely respond to and contribute to the characteristics of the local landscape. Like the application of conventional construction techniques and crafts, traditionally established building types and forms features responsive to the environment and climate, features that resonate with social and communal use, and use of local materials that focus on function over beauty.In vernacular architecture, the geographic and cultural context of the site and surroundings are paramount. It focuses on construction and design with traditional and regional materials. Henceforth, for vernacular design buildings, investigating the site and space comes first. By studying the site in detail, architects can determine the features best suited to each location. Being unique and responsive to the landscape is what Vernacular Architecture revolves around. It symbolizes the cultural identity of a particular region and aligns the specific needs and values of the region and culture.Vernacular architecture is also known as traditional architecture. These buildings are simple, less than three storeys high, constructed using local materials, and cost-effective. It is the mirror reflection of local traditions, surrounding environment, and ways of living of that particular local community and churns out the mirror refraction fusioned with technology and modernism. The valuable link available between the past and current helps the architectures in understanding the local construction techniques and crafts, while allowing them to incorporate its features and values into other architectural concepts.
